A pair of Whitefish High School runners participated in the prestigious Footlocker Western Regional country Championship held in Walnut California this past Saturday. Nicole Brist, a senior placed 11th in the senior girl's 5,000 meter race with a time of 20:40. Sophomore Maya Gordan, placed 67th in the combined Freshman/Sophomore race with a time of 22:15.
"The girls did a great job in their respective races. The level of competition at this meet is very high and that makes this a tough place to compete. Both earned medals by finishing in the top 48 of their grade level."
"Nicole really impressed me with her performance. To finish in the top fifteen was a big goal of hers. This group had the honor of standing on the podium for pictures after the race. It was a lot of fun to see her in the spotlight, especially as a senior."
"Maya ran well, also. For a sophomore, she was able to handle the large crowd that she encountered during the race. She has a lot of ability, and I'm happy that she has a couple of years left to run high school cross country. Maya has shown that she can compete in any race that she runs."
The Footlocker regional attracted more than 2500 runners from thirteen states including Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Alaska, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and Wyoming.
