Comments:

The Whitefish High School Cross Country teams competed at the Mountain West Classic on Saturday. The WHS Boys team ended up in 28th place in the team scoring out of the sixty-six teams competing in the varsity event. The Lady Bulldogs team finished in 24th position fifty-seven schools had teams in the girls varsity race.

"It was a huge meet. With so many teams in attendance that it was easy to get lost in the crowd. I thought that both teams ran very well in such a competitive field. We really wanted to see what the rest of the state had to offer, and we found out that there are a lot of great teams in our classification."

Fischer Gangemi (16:50) and Jace Kalbfleish (16:58) led the Bulldogs during the race, with both placing in the top 100 overall. Freshman Keaton Grove had a nice race as he ran 17:59 to finish third for the team. He was followed closely by Elias Taylor (18:05) and Thomas Henson (18:09).

"I thought our top five boys ran well. I know that Fischer and Jace really wanted to get into the sixteens and they were able to do that. Having Keaton dip under eighteen was nice, as well. He's has a lot of ability and is improving each week. Elias and Thomas had nice races also."

The Girls were led, once again, by Rebecca Holdhusen (21:00). She was followed across the line by Nicole Brist (21:04), Maya Gordon (21:24) and Emma Marchetti (21:43). Rounding out the team scoring was Torrey Coe (22:28).

"The girls continue to improve. Our top four are doing a great job, and our number five, six and seven runners are starting to close that gap on our front runners. That's what we'll continue to need in our efforts to be where we want by the end of the season."

"Waylon Roberts and Tanner Brock did an outstanding job in the Junior Varsity race, and with their performances, they earned spots on the boys varsity squad for the upcoming Thompson Falls Invitational on Thursday."
