Comments:

The WHS Cross Country Teams travelled out the state of Montana for the first time and came back with promising results. The teams competed in the Silverwood Coaster Cross held in Athol, Idaho. There were over 25 teams in attendance from Montana, Idaho and Washington including several teams from the Northwestern A.

The Bulldogs boys' team finished in sixth place overall in the Varsity team race. They were led by the individual performances of Fischer Gangemi and Jace Kalbfleisch. They finished in 13th and 18th places, respectively. Caleb Knox (45th), Thomas Henson (53rd) and Keaton Grove (79th) rounded out the team scoring for WHS.

"Fischer and Jace ran fantastic for this early in the season. They both were able to compete with some of the best runners in the region. Caleb ran the best race of his career to help the team to a high level of performance."

"Even though we had the chance to compete against a lot of tough new teams, we still had the opportunity to compete against Polson, Libby and Frenchtown. It was a nice blend of new surroundings with still being able to compare against some of the more familiar competition that we're used to seeing."

The Lady Bulldogs competed well also, finished in 14th position in the Girls Varsity Team race. They were led by Sophomore Sarah Latcham (55th) and freshman Barrett Gray (62nd). Peyton Twete also had a nice race to finish in 79th place to help the team in the final scoring.

"The field was large. Sarah and Barrett both ran very well for us. Both of them are new to the sport, yet they ran like veterans today."

"Peyton ran a solid race, as well. She was very aggressive and that helped her in such a large field."

"I was happy with the improvement of all of our runners. With it being so early in the season, we are coming around quickly."

"We are looking forward to competing at the Ronan Invitational against the rest of the conference this coming weekend in Pablo."
