Comments on the Meet
Geryah White led the Army women's track and field team with an NCAA Regional qualifying performance in the shot put as the Black Knights opened the 2008 outdoor season on Friday night at the Bulls Invitational, hosted by the University of South Florida in Tampa. Complete results were not available until Sunday evening due to South Florida hosting the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
White landed a throw of 14.40 meters (47-03) to place second in the event. Her mark, which qualifies her to compete in the ECAC Championships and the NCAA East Regional Championships, is a personal best for the junior and is the fourth-best throw in Academy history.
"Geryah looked great tonight," said assistant coach Laura Kirchgraber. "We were all training through this meet but we had a lot of good performances still."
Freshman Carissa Hauck led a 1-2 finish for Army in the 400-meter hurdles as she was joined by senior Katelin Grant in second-place. Huack posted a winning time of 1:05.87 to Grant's 1:05.94.
Junior Meghan Curran placed second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:10.86.
Freshman Hallie Huggins posted a pair of third-place finishes in the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles. Her mark in the triple jump was 36-02.25 while her time in the hurdles was 15.79 seconds.
Army also got third-place finishes from junior Taneshina Wright and senior Nicole Brechue. Wright placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 150 feet, 11 inches. Brechue was third in the discus with a throw of 136 feet, two inches.
Also posting a third-place showing for the Black Knights was the 4x400-meter relay team of Grant, Hauck, freshman Marie Hokenson and senior Kim Maxwell.
Army will host the Dick Shea Invite next weekend with the heptathlon and decathlon beginning on Friday, March 28, and the remainder of the meet taking place on Saturday at Shea Stadium.
